Design and Technology

At Lindridge, we believe that Design and Technology equips children with the knowledge, skills and creativity to become innovative problem-solvers. Through designing, making, evaluating and improving, pupils learn how ideas can be transformed into purposeful products that meet real needs and solve real-world challenges.

Our Design and Technology curriculum is guided by the Projects on a Page framework, which provides a clear progression of skills and knowledge across the primary years. However, we adapt and enrich projects to reflect our unique rural locality, our school's vision and values, and the interests and experiences of our children. This ensures that learning is relevant, meaningful and connected to the world around them.

Wherever possible, children draw inspiration from local issues, traditions, resources and opportunities within our rural community. They are encouraged to think critically about how design can improve lives, support sustainability and respond to the needs of different users. Links with our wider curriculum also enable pupils to apply their learning in purposeful contexts, making meaningful connections between Design and Technology and other areas of study.

Through a range of projects involving structures, mechanisms, textiles, food and nutrition, and electrical systems, children develop practical skills alongside creativity, resilience and independence. They learn to investigate existing products, generate and communicate ideas, select appropriate materials and tools, and evaluate their outcomes against clear design criteria.

By the time they leave Lindridge, we want our pupils to be confident designers and makers who can approach challenges with curiosity, innovation and determination. We aim to foster a lifelong appreciation of how design and technology shape the world around us and inspire children to become the creative thinkers and problem-solvers of the future.
