Religious Education, Collective Worship, and Spirituality at Lindridge St Lawrence CE VA Primary School

At Lindridge St Lawrence CE VA Primary School, Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum and plays a central role in helping children "Discover Life in All its Fullness" (John 10:10b). Through exploring faith, belief and spirituality, we encourage pupils to develop curiosity about the world around them, reflect on life's big questions and broaden their horizons as thoughtful, compassionate members of society.

Our Religious Education curriculum is taught through the Worcestershire Agreed Syllabus, supported by Understanding Christianity, which enables children to develop a deep understanding of Christian beliefs and practices while also exploring a range of other world faiths and worldviews. Through enquiry, discussion and reflection, pupils learn about religion and belief, as well as learning from religion and belief, developing respect for different perspectives and an appreciation of the diversity of the world in which they live.

Each unit of learning begins with a thought-provoking question, encouraging children to think deeply, ask meaningful questions and explore different viewpoints. As their learning progresses, pupils build the knowledge, vocabulary and understanding needed to discuss and respond to these questions with confidence and respect.

As a Church of England school, our Christian vision and values of Hesed, Hamdah, Honesty and Horizons are woven throughout school life. Religious Education, alongside Collective Worship and opportunities for spiritual development, encourages pupils to reflect on their own beliefs and values while developing an understanding of the beliefs and experiences of others.

We cherish our close partnership with St Lawrence's Church, which enriches pupils' learning and strengthens the connection between school, church and community. Through visits, services, celebrations and shared experiences, children are given meaningful opportunities to explore faith in action and understand the role of Christianity within both local and global communities.

Beyond the classroom, Collective Worship provides a daily opportunity for pupils to come together in reflection, prayer and celebration. These experiences support children in developing a sense of belonging, purpose and spiritual awareness, while encouraging kindness, compassion and responsibility towards others.

By the time they leave Lindridge, we want our pupils to be respectful, reflective and open-minded individuals who are able to engage thoughtfully with questions of belief, meaning and purpose. We aim to equip them with the knowledge, understanding and confidence to navigate an increasingly diverse world with curiosity, wisdom and respect.
