Our teaching is built around the White Rose Maths scheme, which provides a carefully sequenced, mastery-based approach to learning. This enables children to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, ensuring that new learning is built securely upon prior knowledge from Nursery through to Year 6.
To further strengthen our mathematics provision, we enhance White Rose Maths with resources and approaches from Maths Mastery and I See Reasoning. These carefully selected materials help children develop a deeper conceptual understanding of mathematics and, crucially, enable them to apply their skills confidently and efficiently in a range of contexts. Through reasoning, discussion and problem-solving, pupils learn not only how to calculate but also how to explain, justify and evaluate their mathematical thinking.
From September 2026, we will also introduce KIRFs (Key Instant Recall Facts) across the school. KIRFs are designed to help children develop rapid recall of key mathematical facts, such as number bonds, multiplication facts and division facts, providing the strong foundations needed for success in mathematics. By developing fluency and automaticity, pupils are able to devote more of their working memory to reasoning, problem-solving and applying their learning in increasingly complex situations.
