  • Transitions

At our school, we understand that successful transitions are key to helping children feel confident, secure and ready for the next stage of their education. As a small school, we are very fortunate that all staff know our children well, enabling us to provide personalised support throughout each transition.

    Nursery to Reception

To support children moving from Nursery into Reception, we offer weekly taster afternoons during the second half of the Summer Term. These sessions provide children with the opportunity to become familiar with their new classroom, routines and adults, helping them to feel excited and prepared for starting Reception.

    Transition Between Year Groups

Children moving between year groups take part in an afternoon taster session with their new class teacher during the Summer Term. This allows them to experience their new learning environment, meet their teacher and begin building confidence ahead of September.

    The six-week break

During the summer holidays, we encourage families to continue supporting their child's learning at home. Children should aim to read with an adult at least three times each week throughout the six-week break. For children in EYFS and Key Stage 1, we also recommend practising phonics three times a week to help maintain and develop their early reading skills. To support this, school will provide Read Write Inc. (RWI) links to short 8-minute phonics lessons for use at home before the summer holidays begin. Regular reading and phonics practice will help children retain the progress they have made during the school year and ensure they return to school in September feeling confident and ready to learn.

    Transition to High School

We have strong relationships with our feeder high schools and work closely with them to ensure a smooth transition for all pupils. Staff from Tenbury High School visit throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms to deliver PE lessons, helping to build positive relationships with our children well before they move on to secondary education.

For children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), we work collaboratively with families and receiving high schools to provide an enhanced transition package tailored to each child's individual needs. This may include additional visits, meetings and personalised support to ensure every child feels confident and well-prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.
