Homework For Reception
It is really important that the children practise their sounds book, read to you and listen to stories and rhymes every day.
To support your child with maths, talk to the children about things you notice for example, you have 3 fish fingers, this mirror is a circle etc.
Homework for Year One and Two
Reading:
We will be reading with children at school; however, it is incredibly important that children are read with at home daily to support their fluency especially. Children will be bringing home a phonics book which is closely matched to the sounds they already know and a ‘book to share’ which you can read with or to them. We ask that you note down daily reading in the children’s reading records so we can award dojos.
Spellings:
For year 1 and 2 there will be weekly spellings introduced during spelling lessons. Please help your child to learn these spellings at home so they can use them in their writing. There will not be a test but it will really help your child if they have opportunities to write them at home.
Maths:
Maths homework sheets will be sent home every Friday for children to complete and bring back into school to be marked each Thursday. Dojo points are awarded for children who complete their homework.

Reception children enjoyed exploring the adventures of Batfink through storytelling, role-play and creative writing activities. Inspired by the superhero theme, they invented their own characters, created exciting adventures and wrote captions, labels and simple sentences to share their ideas.

What skills were developed? The children developed their phonics knowledge, letter formation and early writing skills, while building confidence in communicating their thoughts. |
What the teacher says The children have been using their own ideas to write simple sentences. They have been introduced to simple punctuation including capital letters and full stops. |
In Years 1 and 2, children explored Grandad’s Secret Giant and used the story as a stimulus for developing their narrative writing skills. Through storytelling, and discussion, pupils first learnt to retell the story, focusing on the sequence of events, characters and key themes. As their confidence grew, they innovated the text by creating their own versions of the story, changing the setting and events while maintaining the original story structure. This process helped children to develop their imagination, vocabulary and understanding of narrative features. Alongside this, pupils practised using accurate punctuation, descriptive language and sentence structures to create engaging and independent pieces of writing.

What skills were developed? The children learned to create narratives with a clear structure, developed characters, explored settings, and sequenced events logically. Through retelling and innovating stories, the children also developed confidence, creativity and independence as writers.
