Music at Lindridge St Lawrence CE VA Primary School and Nursery

At Lindridge, we believe that music should be an exciting, creative and inclusive experience that allows every child to express themselves, develop confidence and discover the joy of making music. Through singing, listening, composing and performing, our pupils develop a lifelong appreciation of music and an understanding of its power to bring people together.

Our Music curriculum is delivered through the Charanga Music Scheme, which provides a progressive and engaging framework for developing musical knowledge, skills and understanding. Through carefully sequenced learning, children explore a wide range of musical styles, genres and traditions while developing their ability to perform, compose, listen and appraise with increasing confidence.

We are passionate about ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and perform on a musical instrument. As part of our exciting and inclusive approach to music, all Key Stage 2 pupils take part in whole-class instrumental tuition delivered by specialist teachers from Severn Arts. Working with experienced musicians enables children to benefit from high-quality teaching and develop their skills as performers while fostering a love of music.

Our two-year rolling programme ensures that pupils experience a diverse range of instruments:

• Year A: Cornets and Djembe Drums
• Year B: Ukuleles and Violins

Through learning these instruments, children develop resilience, concentration, teamwork and performance skills, while also gaining an understanding of different musical traditions and cultures. Regular opportunities to perform help pupils grow in confidence and take pride in their achievements.

We recognise that some children may wish to develop their musical skills even further. Alongside our whole-class provision, we offer all pupils the opportunity to access additional one-to-one instrumental tuition, allowing them to pursue their individual musical interests and talents with expert guidance.

We aim to nurture curious and confident musicians who appreciate the richness and diversity of music and understand the important role it plays in communities and cultures around the world.

By the time they leave Lindridge, we want our pupils to have developed a love of music, confidence in their own musical abilities and lasting memories of making music together. Whether singing, performing, composing or learning an instrument, every child is encouraged to participate, achieve and experience the joy that music brings.
