History, at Lindridge St Lawrence CE VA Primary School and Nursery

At Lindridge, we want children to see history as an exciting story waiting to be uncovered. We believe that the past is full of fascinating people, remarkable events and intriguing mysteries that inspire curiosity and help us understand the world we live in today. Through our History curriculum, children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate evidence and discover how the lives of people in the past have shaped our communities, our country and the wider world.

Our rural setting provides a rich starting point for historical enquiry. We encourage children to explore the history of Lindridge and the surrounding area, helping them develop a strong sense of place and an appreciation of the people, traditions and events that have influenced their local community. By beginning with what is familiar, pupils build connections that help them explore wider historical themes with confidence and enthusiasm.

Each unit begins with a Big Question that sparks curiosity and encourages children to think like historians. As they journey through their learning, pupils develop the knowledge, vocabulary and disciplinary skills needed to investigate the past, evaluate evidence and build informed answers to these questions. They learn that history is not simply about remembering facts, but about exploring different perspectives, making connections and understanding why events happened.
