At Lindridge St Lawrence CE VA Primary School, we believe that science should inspire curiosity, wonder and a lifelong fascination with the world around us. Through our Science curriculum, we encourage children to "Discover Life in all its Fullness" by exploring the natural world, asking questions and developing an understanding of the scientific principles that shape our everyday lives.

We have carefully designed our own Science curriculum to reflect the needs of our children, our rural setting and our vision for learning. Each unit begins with a thought-provoking Big Question, designed to spark curiosity and encourage children to think deeply about the world around them. As their learning progresses, pupils build the knowledge, skills and scientific vocabulary needed to investigate, discuss and ultimately answer these questions with confidence and understanding.

Our curriculum develops children's knowledge across the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics, while placing equal importance on the skills of working scientifically. Pupils learn how to observe, question, predict, investigate, measure, record and analyse, helping them to think critically and develop a deeper understanding of how scientific knowledge is created and tested.

We believe that science is best learned through practical experiences. Investigation and exploration are at the heart of our approach, with opportunities for children to make discoveries for themselves, test their ideas and learn from their observations. Through collaborative learning and independent enquiry, pupils develop resilience, curiosity and a genuine excitement for scientific discovery.

From Nursery through to Year 6, we also incorporate investigations and activities from the Ogden Trust, enabling children to engage in high-quality physics learning from an early age. These carefully designed experiences help pupils develop a strong understanding of key physics concepts through exploration, questioning and practical enquiry, ensuring that physics is accessible, engaging and inspiring for all learners.

Our beautiful school grounds provide an exceptional outdoor classroom, rich with opportunities to study living things, habitats, seasonal change and environmental issues first hand. By making the most of our local environment, children are able to see science in action and develop meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them.

Throughout their time at Lindridge, pupils are encouraged to think about the role of science in addressing local and global challenges and to consider the exciting possibilities that science offers for the future.
