Beautiful Work Showcase

Year 6 Project Overview

To fully immerse the children into our writing texts and foster creative context, we engage in hands-on workshops, themed exploration days, and interactive speaking activities. Throughout the term, pupils develop a diverse portfolio of writing including character studies, formal persuasive letters, descriptive settings, and reflective diary entries. In addition, pupils have multiple structured opportunities to present their work in front of an audience, refining their physical oracy and public presentation skills.

What The Student Says

"I loved getting inside the mind of the characters in Wonder! It really helped me write realistically when we produced our diary entries."

"I'm really proud of my diary entry. It's made me feel more confident about structuring reflective pieces and empathising with Auggie ."

What Skills Were Developed?

• Developed a sophisticated command of ambitious, context-specific vocabulary.

• Mastered complex sentence structures including fronted adverbials and relative clauses.

• Applied the full range of Year 6 punctuation (semicolons, colons, dashes, and hyphens).

• Refined public speaking, active listening, and audience engagement strategies.

• Achieved consistent, fluent, and legibly joined cursive handwriting styles.

What The Teacher Says

"The absolute highlight of teaching writing this term is watching the immense leaps in maturity our pupils demonstrate with their grammar and punctuation choices. As Year 6 staff, we foster the use of nuanced, expanded noun phrases and bold stylistic risks to keep our readers fully captivated. The pupils genuinely step into the shoes of the literary characters, showcasing true empathy and creative flare!"
